Basic Fault Model

Shown is the xz-plane of the model and the y-component of seismic velocity.

The seismic properties of the surrounding quarter spaces are

  • p-velocity: 5.00 km/s
  • s-velocity: 3.50 km/s
  • density: 2.35 g/cm^3
The FZ properties are 30% reduced with respect to the background.
The Dispersion of the FZ-waves lead to decreasing wiggles at the top of the FZ-wave train while the FZ-wave travels towards the surface.
Additionally at the back of the wave train new wiggles arise. As a consequence, altough each wiggle travels with S-velocity, the whole FZ-wave train is slower.
